Northglenn Judo Club finished in first place at their
33rd Annual Championships held at Northglenn Recreation Center, Northglenn,
Colorado on Saturday. Hyland Hills finished second among the 20 clubs and
four states that attended the event. A total of 208 players competed in
the event, from Colorado, New Mexico, Wyoming, and Utah.
Overall, Northglenn earned a total of 129 points, with 17 gold, 11 silver, and
11 bronze medals. Hyland Hills had 70 total point, with 10 gold, 6 silver,
and 2, bronze medals. The next closest club was the Olympic Ttraining
Center's
Junior Judo Club with 59 point from 8 gold, 4 silver, and 7 bronze medals.
The Junior athletes are preparing for the Junior National Tournament Season
which begins in July 7-8 and consists of National Championships on three
consecutive weekends in Monterey, California, Louisville, Kentucky, and
Toledo, Ohio.
The top players will then participate in the U.S. Junior International
Championships in Boca Raton, Florida on August 4-5.
The next preparatory event for Colorado players will be the OTC Memorial Day
Classic at the Olympic Traning Center in Colorado Springs on May 26th.
All the national and international events earn points for the place winners,
and at the close of the Florida event, the top ranked player in each weight
category will make the USA Judo team that will participate in the
Pan American Judo Union Judo Championships in late August in Mexico.
