1999 HOUSTON OPEN JUDO TOURNAMENT RESULTS, November 13, 1999

The 1999 Houston Open was a great success, with 216 registered for the shiai
and kata, and eight teams registered for the contest for the Texas Challenge
Team Cup. Thanks to the efforts of our registration volunteers Rich
Hashimoto, Thelma Lopez, and Kitty Haynes, registration processed quickly so
that our pools volunteers, Cynthia Raybon and Lesley Hickox from Dallas, with
overseeing help from Sheree Snyder were able to have the draws made up so
that the tournament started on time. Right after opening ceremonies at
9:45am, we started the matches. After the juniors divisions finished, the
kata competition began during awards to the juniors. By having kata during
intermission between juniors and seniors competition, the kata competitors
had the benefit of full presence of all spectators and other competitors
observing. The Texas Team Challenge Cup, for the first time in three years,
remained in Texas with the Team from BUSHIDO JUDO CLUB taking first place.
The Texas Challenge Mixed Team Cup was won by the Centex Team. The Juniors
Team Trophy was won by BECERRA JUDO CLUB,

We received many compliments about the venue, The Pasadena Convention Center,
which is now the home of the Houston Open. Spectators and competitors
appreciated the seats, visibility of action, the audio system, and the space
to roam around. Results were:
